For the Commodore 64
Mail to Webmaster
On these pages you will find much of the information I have found out about the Extreme Cartridge 2 (EC2). The EC2 is not yet released but the designer of the cartridge has already told us a lot about the cartridge via his homepage and various forums.
To the left you will find links to the designers homepage as well as to forums where he has written about the EC2. You will also find links within this site where you can find information about cartridges that the EC2 already is able to emulate as well as cartridges that are not yet emulated but that the designer is working on to be able to emulate. His goal is to emulate as many of the cartridges as possible of those ever created for the C64.
The developer has also given us the possibility that the EC2 will work in native C128 mode on a Commodore 128!
The EC2 is built around the Cyclone EP2C20F484 FPGA. The EC2 resources include 4M Flash memory, SD Card Slot, 8M SDRAM, 512K SRAM, and 24, 27 and 50 MHz clocks.
4M Flash can hold 512 8K ROM images. The EC2 is capable of bank switching, RAM emulation, 8K, 16K, and 20K ROM emulation (yes Super Zaxxon!!!), and hardware emulation of just about any cartridge built for the C64 with an additional daughter board. Such daughter boards could be for example the Video Byte II or the RR-Net.
The EP2C20F484 FPGA alone is $65.00, so the EC2 will be more expensive than the MMC Replay. Pricing is not completed yet but the price for the finished product will be an estimated $200. Please note that this is just an estimate and the final price may be higher or lower.
Disclaimer: I do not in any way mean to take credit for creating or contributing to the creation of the EC2. It is completely being designed and developed by Adoreware. The purpose of this site is merely to inform the Commodore community of a great upcoming (hopefully) product!
